Italian Girl in Algiers - Week Three

Philadelphia’s favorite buffo bass, Kevin Glavin, returns to the Opera Company of Philadelphia as Mustafà, the Bey of Algiers, who becomes bored with his harem and turns his attention to the cunning Isabella.

Isabella, mezzo-soprano Ruxandra Donose, is shipwrecked on the shores of Algiers while in search of her lover Lindoro.  When she finds herself pursued by the Bey Mustafà, buffo bass Kevin Glavin, she realizes that she will need to use all of her feminine wiles to escape with Lindoro.

Paul Shortt's exotic set design includes everything from moveable platforms to flying elephants!

Baritone Keith Phares makes his Opera Company of Philadelphia debut as Haly, the captain of Mustafà’s guard.

 

After last being seen as Dandini in 2006’s Cinderella, baritone Daniel Belcher returns to OCP as Taddeo, who is shipwrecked with Isabella and finds himself surrounded by the exotic clothing and customs of Algiers.

Director Stefano Vizioli and Assistant Director Seth Hoff discuss coordinating set changes in between scenes.

Supernumerary Maria Mavromatis is one of the women in Mustafà’s harem and strikes a pose in her costume designed by Richard St. Clair.
